The
Team Meeting
Discussion
Questions
- What factors
may have contributed to the anger or bitterness that Marilyn
feels toward the other team members?
- Is there
anything that Marilyn might have done or failed to have done
that may have contributed to the current situation?
- What options
does Marilyn have when she returns to the meeting after the
break? What are the possible outcomes of each option?
- What is
the wisest course of action for Marilyn to take and why? Specifically,
what should Marilyn do or say upon reconvening?
- Jim, the
team's pediatrician, appears to function in a leadership role.
What, if anything, could he do or say to rectify the situation?
- The difficulties
of this team appear to go beyond the issues surrounding Adam
Goodman and his family. If you were the director of this program
and were responsible for supervising all of the team members,
what approach would you take to strengthen team cohesion?
How would you begin the process?
- What are
the options for addressing the Goodmans' concerns about Adam's
walking, talking, and destructive behavior? List the options
available: 1) if the speech-language therapist and physical
therapist are able to work directly with the family, and 2)
if they are only available as Marilyn's consultants. How would
you determine which course of action to follow?
- Can this
team adequately address the issues presented by the Goodman
family or are additional resources needed? If so, who or what
would they be?
- In general,
how should it be decided which children receive related services
such as speech-language therapy, physical therapy, or occupational
therapy when the availability of such services is limited within
a program?
